What’s Included in Your El Paso CPR Renewal Class

Every renewal class includes a certified AHA instructor, professional-grade CPR manikins with real-time feedback on compression depth and rate, AED trainer devices, bag valve masks, and all course materials. You do not need to bring anything except yourself.

Skills assessment is conducted on site. You demonstrate CPR competency for adults, children, and infants, AED deployment, bag valve mask ventilation, and choking relief protocols before certification is issued. Our instructors provide coaching throughout the session. If your technique needs correction, they address it in the moment so your skills are solid before you walk out.

Your new AHA BLS card is valid for 2 years from the date of issue and is accepted nationwide by all employers, state licensing boards, the Joint Commission, and OSHA. Digital eCards are emailed the same day. Physical cards are in your hand before you leave.

What the AHA BLS Renewal Course Covers

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Adults, Children and Infants

The AHA BLS course covers high-performance CPR technique for all age groups. You practice proper hand placement, compression depth of at least 2 inches for adults, rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute, full chest recoil between compressions, and minimizing interruptions to blood flow. Infant and child-specific compression technique is covered separately with the correct depth and two-finger placement method for infants.

AED Use and Deployment

Hands-on AED training uses trainer devices that simulate a real cardiac arrest response. You practice recognizing a shockable rhythm, pad placement for adult and pediatric patients, operating through the full shock cycle, and resuming high-quality chest compressions immediately after defibrillation. Proper AED use is a core component of the AHA BLS certification and is tested in the skills assessment.

Bag Valve Mask Ventilation

Healthcare providers practicing BLS renewal work through bag valve mask technique covering proper mask seal, ventilation rate, tidal volume, and coordination with chest compressions. Both 1-rescuer and 2-rescuer ventilation scenarios are practiced. This skill is specific to the BLS Healthcare Provider certification and is required for clinical settings.


2-Rescuer CPR and Team Response

AHA BLS places significant emphasis on team-based cardiac arrest response. The renewal course includes 2-rescuer CPR scenarios covering compressor and ventilator roles, smooth role transitions, clear verbal communication during resuscitation, and maintaining uninterrupted high-quality compressions during handoffs.


Foreign Body Airway Obstruction Relief

Choking relief for adults, children, and infants is a required component of AHA BLS. The course covers back blows and abdominal thrusts for responsive choking victims and the transition to CPR when a choking victim becomes unresponsive. Age-specific technique differences are practiced hands-on.

Frequently Asked Questions About AHA BLS CPR Renewal in El Paso

Yes. There is no penalty for a lapsed certification and no extended course required. You attend the same AHA BLS class and receive a new 2-year card. Your employer may have their own internal policy regarding a gap in coverage, but the training and certification process is identical regardless of whether your card expired yesterday or two years ago.

The American Heart Association requires a hands-on skills assessment as a mandatory component of BLS certification. Online-only courses cannot fulfill that requirement. University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) hospitals, the Joint Commission, state licensing boards, and most employers specifically require an AHA BLS card issued by an authorized training site following in-person skills assessment. Online-only certificates are not the same credential and are regularly rejected at credentialing.

Approximately 3.5 to 4.5 hours including hands-on practice, skills assessment, and testing.

Digital AHA eCards are emailed immediately upon successful completion of your skills assessment. Physical cards are printed on site and distributed before you leave class.

Yes. AHA BLS certification issued by an authorized training site is accepted by all Texas licensing boards including the Board of Nursing and Board of Dentistry, the Joint Commission, OSHA, and every employer that requires CPR certification across the United States.

Every 2 years. Your card has the expiration date printed on it. Scheduling your renewal 30 days before the expiration date gives you a buffer if your preferred session fills up. All available dates are shown in the booking calendar at the top of this page.

Yes. AHA BLS certification belongs to the American Heart Association standard, not the training site that issued it. You can renew at any authorized AHA Training Site regardless of where your original certification came from. Also, because we teach the full course anyone can get a fresh CPR Certification with us regardless of what kind of CPR you took before.

Yes. Groups of 5 or more employees can schedule onsite CPR training or renewal at your location at no additional cost.
